COURSE DESCRIPTIONS:

Shadow Yoga, founded by Zhander Remete, is a Hatha Yoga system that utilizes rhythmic breathing, bandhas (energetic locks) and the system of marma (vital junctions) to free the peripheral body of its energetic obstructions and to ignite our inner fire for healing and meditation. Shadow Yoga consists of circular and spiraling movements, warrior stances, and sun salutation forms that prepares students to safetly and effectively practice the more advanced limbs of Hatha Yoga. Visit www.shadowyoga.com to learn more.

SHADOW YOGA PRELUDE FORMS

These courses are taught in a series format so that students learn the preludes in a step-by-step manner. Preregistration is required for all courses.

INTRODUCTION TO SHADOW YOGA WORKSHOPS

This workshop format provides students an opportunity to learn or review the Shadow Yoga warm- ups called "Dasha Chalanam" and "Jiva Chalanam," as well as the fundamentals of the Shadow Yoga style. Workshops usually take place on Sundays throughout the year. After completing this workshop, students may enter the Basics Series or one of the Prelude Series at the teacher's discretion.

SHADOW YOGA BASICS SERIES

In this series you will be introduced to the fundamentals of Shadow Yoga. This course is a prerequisite for all other Shadow Yoga Prelude forms. All levels are welcome.

BALAKRAMA - STEPPING INTO STRENGTH

A dynamic bone strengthening form, which actively engages one's center (navel region), hands, feet, and breath. This form removes marma (energetic obstructions) from the legs and pelvis to free the downward flow of prana, detoxify the blood, and strengthen the lungs. This course is recommended for students who have completed the Shadow Yoga Basics Course.

CHAYA YODDHA SANCHALANAM - CHURNING OF THE SHADOW WARRIOR

The spiraling and circular movements in this form develop coordination of the limbs and the ability to rhythmically circulate the pranic force through the body. It removes energetic obstructions in the waist and legs, makes the body light, and promotes healthy digestion and elimination.  This course is recommended for students who have been working with the Balakrama prelude and for those who have completed the Shadow Yoga Basics.

KARTIKKEYA MANDALAM – GARLAND OF LIGHT

This advanced form consists of demanding stance and waist work, removes marma from the chest and shoulders, and prepares the body for the primary seated asanas.  It is highly recommended that you have been working with the Balakrama or Chaya Yoddha Sanchalanam Prelude consistently for at least six months.

PRIMARY ASANA

This course builds upon the foundation that is laid in the Shadow Yoga Preludes and is suitable for all levels of students who have knowledge of at lease on prelude form. Students will be introduced to traditional primary asanas and their appropriate vinyasas to further refine the circulation of the life force through the hips and spine, strengthen respiration and enkindle the Agni (internal fire). Prerequisite: Knowledge of at least one Shadow Yoga Prelude.

INDIVIDUALIZED ASANA

In this course each student is given an individualized sequence of asanas based on their particular needs and capacities. It is open to students with knowledge of at least one Shadow Yoga prelude form. The class schedule is structured so that students arrive to class at different times and work at their own pace to support their natural rhythm of practice and ensure one-on-one attention in each class. This type of format is the most effective way to move through the challenges that each of us face in practice, prevent injury, and strengthen personal commitment and understanding. Prerequisite: Knowledge of at least one Shadow Yoga Prelude.

SHADOW YOGA FULL PRACTICE FORMAT

The structure of this practice reflects the quintessential form of the gayatri mantra, which consists of prelude, mantra, and conclusion (vyahrti, gayatri, and siras). Prerequisite: Students mus know at least one prelude to attend this course.

SHADOW YOGA OPEN PRACTICE

This course is an open schedule format for Shadow Yoga students who know one or more prelude form. Students will practice individually and Scott will give adjustments and input for refining their practice of the preludes and the seated postures. Prerequisite: Students must know at least one Shadow Yoga prelude to attend this course.
