SHADOW YOGA AND AYURVEDA
Cultivating Prana in Hatha Yoga Workshop with Scott Blossom

March 10 - 11, 2012

“The cultivation of prana has always been achieved through simple and uncomplicated movements” - Zhander Remete

How is it that master yogis can perform extraordinary feats of physical and mental flexibility and stamina effortlessly? And what does developing these kinds of abilities have to do with becoming a wise and compassionate person?

In both Indian and Taoist yoga we find traditions that view the life force, known as prana or chi, as the foundation of the body and mind. Both systems offer us simple ways for understanding, feeling, and cultivating this power within us. Without understanding prana, one may develop some degree of physical ability but the deeper aspects of yoga remain dormant.

The ancient hatha yoga texts offer direct insight into how we can practice yoga to align ourselves with the currents and rhythms of our prana. From this perspective yoga practice becomes not only a way to live in greater harmony with the laws of the physical body and world but also to recognize the power of our minds and hearts.

Join Scott for Shadow yoga and Ayurvedic insight into how to live in harmony with our prana on and off the mat.

INTEGRATING SHADOW YOGA & AYURVEDA FOR HEALTH AND SELF-KNOWLEDGE

with Scott Blossom

Integrating Ayurvedic wisdom into our Yoga practice, diet, and lifestyle is like learning the steps of a dance with Nature. In the Yoga tradition we have the image of Shiva as Nataraja, the eternal dancer, to remind us that the dynamic rhythms of each day, each season, and our individual lives are a dance that we must learn and refine for the expression of our full potential. The sister sciences of Yoga and Ayurveda have evolved side by side over millennia to offer us ways to listen to the sacred pulse of Life.

Join Dr. Scott Blossom for this two day course that will include yoga practice and discussion of the central principles for integrating Shadow Yoga and Ayurveda in our lives. Scott is a national expert on this subjects in the United States.

The traditional role of Yoga in Ayurvedic medicine

SHADOW YOGA AND MEDITATION
with Scott Blossom & Chandra Easton

at Montanha Encantada, Garopaba, Santa Catarina, Brazil

March 16-19, 2012

Shadow Yoga is a Hatha Yoga system that consists of circular and spiraling movements, warrior stances, sun salutation forms, as well as, traditional seated postures designed to produce resonance in the body and mind for healing and meditation. The system was developed by master Hatha Yogi Zhander Remete. Zhander has practiced hatha yoga for over fifty years and his research background also includes the study of martial arts, Ayurvedic and Siddha systems of medicine, and the application of Varma Kalai (Marma Sthana).  Shadow Yoga reflects an integration of these studies.  It provides a safe and methodical way to approach the more advanced practices of hatha yoga such as mudra and pranayama and has therapeutic benefits for healing imbalances of the digestive and reproductive systems.

Scott will teach the first of the Shadow Prelude forms called Balakrama (Stepping Into Strength).  This is a dynamic bone strengthening practice which engages the navel region, hands, feet, and breath. This form removes marma (energetic obstructions) from the legs and pelvis to free the downward flow of prana, detoxify the blood, and fortify the lungs. The classes are taught sequentially like a dance and prepare the body and mind for asana-vinyasa.

The meditation sessions with Chandra will include instruction and practice of Shamatha (Calm-Abiding) meditation using breath awareness as taught by the Buddha in the Anapanasati Sutra (the Sutra on Mindfulness of Breathing). We will build on the calm and clarity established in the Shamatha for the practice of Loving Kindness (Metta) meditation, deepening our capacity to feel compassion and develop understanding for oneself and others.

Scott and Chandra weave together their knowledge of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Ayurveda, Shadow Yoga, and Buddhism to create a seamless tapestry of healing and embodied wisdom. All levels are welcome.
